Reflection
There are multiple ways to assess student learning. One way to evaluate individual growth and development is to use performance assessments.
For this assignment, I was to design a performance assessment for a
science class. I decided to create a rubric for a journal entry assignment. I would put the rubric on the SmartBoard or overhead projector and discuss the expectations. This way every student will know what is anticipated. Using the rubric, I know I will be able to assess my students in a way that measures their understanding of the lesson content. I’ll also be able to more easily see the gaps in student learning, so that I can plan for remediation where it is needed.

Name of Artifact: Traditional Assessment
Date: Fall 2012
Course: EDUC 224 Introduction to Scientific Inquiry
Brief Description: This is an example of a traditional assessment I created.
Rationale: I have included this artifact to document my ability to create a traditional assessment and to monitor student learning progress.
Reflection
It is important to progress monitor students. Traditional assessments are a good way to do this. Teachers can quickly measure if students are learning and understanding what is being taught to them. If they find that the student is not grasping the content, the teacher can quickly adjust her
instructional tactics. I included in my assessment over the Solar System true/false questions, multiple choice questions, and short answer and essay questions. I also included in my artifact the science standards that were covered and an answer key I know as a teacher I will need to be able to create different types of assessments in order to be an effective teacher.
