Name of Artifact: Dean's List Letters
Date: 2011-2013
Course: Education Department, Ivy Tech Community College
Brief Description: Dean's list letters from Ivy Tech Community College.
Rationale: I have included my Dean's list letters under InTASC standard 4 to represent my understanding of central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of elementary education.
Reflection
I included the letters I have received congratulating me on making the Dean's List while attending classes at Ivy Tech Community College.
This honor is applicable to degree-seeking students who achieve a minimum 3.50 grade point average while earning six or more Ivy Tech credits during the semester. I have earned this honor four out of the five semesters that I have been eligible, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.705. I feel that a teacher must always lead by example. Because I have worked hard in my academic endeavors, I feel that I can honestly relate to my students that they, too, are capable of great achievements. I will put to use all the things I learned while attending Ivy Tech throughout my career in education to benefit my students to the best of my ability.

Reflection
For my Introduction to Teaching class, I was assigned to write a
paper about education in history. I had to choose a time period in American history and consider the social impacts of the time as well as the political response in terms of education. I chose to write about the American Revolution and the evolution of traditional American education. I believe that it is important to study the mistakes and successes of our past. As a country, we must be able to gain insights from every possible venue, so that we can continue into the future setting forth our best practices, while learning from our worst. Our world is constantly changing and we must be able to adapt quickly. Having the information of those who have walked in our path before will help us to make educated, informed decisions.
